Event Details
Join us for 826 Boston’s second annual benefit art auction on
Friday, December 11th, 2009 at the
Robert Klein Gallery, 38 Newbury Street, Boston. The event will feature a silent auction of individual works by leading artists including
Julie Blackmon, Dawn Clements, Dave Cole, Hildur Asgeirsdottir Jonsson and Jon Racek. Prior to the event, 826 Boston students will stand in as art critics and are currently writing their own reviews of the artwork. Dalhaysy Fernandez, age 8, had this to say about Julie Blackmon’s photograph “The Power of Now”– “I would pay $15 for this, or $25 if it were as big as a wall, and I would call it, ‘In My Grandma’s Backyard Until Winter Starts Again.’”
In addition, over 50 local artists are producing
original broadsides inspired by fantastical bedtime stories written by 826 Boston students and published in our most recent publication,
2% of 2% of All The World’s Stories. Printmaker Bob daVies, for example, created an ink drawing in response to eight-year-old Cardinal Robinson’s story, “The Monster,” which begins “Once upon a time there was a monster, who grumbled ‘I want some fried king.’” The resulting letter pressed broadside, produced by Rope-a-Dope Collaborative, will be auctioned off at this event.
All proceeds will benefit 826 Boston’s free writing and tutoring programs.
